Chorus in concert

There are no auditions

Tucson Women’s Chorus has never held an audition, and we don’t intend to start. We welcome women of all ages and backgrounds, including LGBTQ and diverse cultural identities, and any level of prior musical experience.

Some of us read music. Some of us learn every note by ear. Both are ordinary here, and nobody is asked which they are.

Come and sing before you decide

You’re welcome at rehearsal as our guest for two weeks before committing to anything. There’s no payment and nothing to prepare — we just like to know you’re coming so we have music ready when you walk in.

Tell us you’d like to visit and we’ll let you know when the next session starts and where to find us.

Rehearsals are held on Mondays, 6:30–8:30 p.m.

Sessions and cost

The chorus sings two sessions a year: mid-August to mid-December, and mid-January to mid-May. We rehearse weekly through the session and end it in performance.

The fee for a session is $120. High school students sing free when they come with a paying adult.

Ways to pay

Pay online by card, either in full or in four installments.

Or pay by Zelle, check or cash — the chorus would rather you did. Card payments carry a processing fee, and these don’t, so more of your $120 reaches the music. Choose that option when you register and we’ll send you the details.

Partial scholarships are available. If the fee is the thing standing between you and singing with us, say so — you won’t be asked to explain.

Registration for the Spring 2027 session opens in January.

No. Come and see us first. We’d appreciate knowing you’re coming so we have the materials on hand — signing up as a guest is enough.

That’s a question even for experienced singers, because voices change over time. You’re welcome to try sections until you find the one that fits. Better still, meet with our director — she’ll schedule a time to help you find your range.

The proud tradition of this chorus is that we can all sing, whether we read music or not. The director teaches each song bit by bit in rehearsal, singing each line of each part and having us sing it back until we’ve learned it. Singers who read music use that ability alongside.

Yes. Even after a song is taught, we practice on our own — listening to the practice tracks, studying the words on the song sheets, reviewing rehearsal notes. Everyone has a week where it doesn’t happen. We catch up the following week.

In general, yes — our goal is to perform without music. It always looks daunting when the music for a new series first arrives, and the director works with us until we’re ready. Remember that we sing for the joy of it. Sina will never put us on stage unprepared.

Of course. And if you’re unwell, much as we’ll miss you, we’d rather you stayed home. You’ll be able to listen to a recording of any rehearsal you miss. We just ask that you let your section leader know.
